How to Reach:

The most common route taken by visitors is a bus ride from the nearby Kadamba Bus Terminus which is located 21 km away. It takes about 2 – 3 hours of journey on frequently plying buses to the temple from the bus terminus. One can avail a private car, cab, auto rickshaw. You can even take a rental bike for the ride to the temple.

About: Mangeshi Temple is Lord Shiva temple located in the Mangeshi village in Ponda region of Goa. It is the largest and most visited temple in Goa. This temple is built in the honour of Bhagwan Manguesh, the Kuldevata of Gaud Saraswat Brahmins. The deity is believed to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. The name was derived from Mam Girisha; the words used by Goddess Parvati. She used these words when Lord Shiva made a successful attempt to scare her by taking the form of a Tiger.

The Mangeshi Temple complex houses shrines of Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesha along with other deities. Lord Shiva is worshipped here in the form of Shiva Linga. This Mangesh Linga is believed to have been consecrated on Mongir mountain. The mountain which is along the banks of the Bhagirathi River by Lord Brahma. The 450-year old temple is known for its stunning architecture with grand domes and a magnificent water tank.
