How to Reach: Its located 48 kilometers away from the Panaji. The best way to reach Nanuz Fort is via Ponda or via Panaji. You can either hire yourself some transport or use public transport. The road is easily accessible to the fort but once you reach the spot, you have to climb a small hillock.
Time needed: 1 hour and 10 minutes
How to reach Nanuz fort in Goa?
- Land at Dabolim/Mopa Airport
Take a flight from anywhere to Goa. You can either land at Dabolim airport in South Goa or New Mopa airport which is in North Goa.
- Bus from Mopa Airport to Mapusa or Dabolim Airport to Panaji.
Use an airport bus transport to reach Mapusa city if you are landing at Mopa Airport or Dabolim Airport to Panjim city.
- Local Bus Transport to Valpoi from Mapusa/Panjim
Once at these cities, you get local transport to Valpoi.
- Hire a pilot/local bus to Nanuz
Nanuz is a small village in Valpoi. Once you reach at the fort stop, few minutes of climbing the hill will take you to the Nanuz fort.
About: Located in the Sattari district of North Goa, Nanuz Fort was built by the legendary ruler Shivaji and was later taken over by the Portuguese. Although comparatively smaller in size and currently in ruins, the fort is still flocked by many tourists to experience its magnificence and the olden times architecture.
Once Dipaji Rane captured the fort. He used it as a military base during the time of early revolts in Goa. From the fort, Dipaji Rane and his men used to conduct raids in Bardez and Tiswadi and then retreat to Sattari. Later this same fort was captured by the soldiers from the Panjim barracks.
